Snowman Cake Pops

After showing you have to make Christmas Tree and Present Cake pops, lets keep going and see what else we can do for Christmas themed cake pops.

How about some snowmen? I believe I have seen them on Facebook or some blogs before so I thought I would make some as well. There are two ways of doing this and it’s up to you how you go about it.

First, you can make two different size balls to shape the snowman. Or if you like, even do three. Then put them together on the stick. However, I decided to go about it a bit differently.

What you will need:

– favourite cake baked
– frosting
– lollipop sticks
– mold if you have one
– white, black, orange chocolate wavers
– fruit rolls
– cake pop holder
– bowl
– small brush
– edible pen in black

Crumble the cake you baked after it cooled down, then mix with frosting until you have a workable dough. Form a cake ball the size you like, or if you have a mold, use that. When I don’t use molds I use a scale to make sure all cake balls are about the same weight and size. When you have the ball, start pressing it slightly together in the middle so that it will form a top and bottom half. This will make the base and head of the snow man.

Place the formed balls in the freezer for 10 to 15 min before you dip the lollipops into the melted white chocolate and stick them into the balls. Then place the snowmen on a stick into the fridge or freezer again to harden the chocolate. Prepare the fruit rolls, which are the scarves. Cut them the length you like and lay them out so that you can grab them quickly. I had no fruit rolls but sour gums that were long. I am not sure on the brand.

Remove the snowmen from the fridge and ip one at a time into white chocolate. Slightly shake to remove too much chocolate before placing it in a cake pop holder or Styrofoam block. Take one of the prepared scarves an wrap it around the neck of the snowman. Press lightly to make sure it does not fall off. Let it dry completely.

After all snowmen are dry it is time to add the details. You can use either black edible marker or black chocolate wavers, usually available during Halloween. I used the chocolate for the eyes and mouth and the marker for the arms. If you use chocolate make sure it is thin enough. You are working with small details here, so the thin chocolate will be easier to handle.

Use orange to add the carrot nose. Here it is good if the chocolate is not too thing so that you can pull it away and it hardens quickly to form the nose. Depending on the size of your snowman you might be able to use little carrots formed from fondant or such.

If you like you can add a top hat or ear muffs but the size of my snowmen didn’t quite allow for that. Both would have been very big and looked somewhat silly.

Happy baking!
